THE STORY
Since 1968 we've been commited to building performance products that don't just meet rider expectations, they exceed them on every level. It's that commitment that keeps us going strong year after year. Motocross is our life - this is our story.
Thor was founded by 4-Time World 250cc Motocross Champion (63, 64, 65, 67) Torsten Hallman in 1968 in San Diego, California. Two years earlier, Torsten had come to the United States at the request of Husqvarna to help Edison Dye (the US Husqvarna importer) promote the bike and introduce it to the US market. Torsten dominated as he won every race he entered; Motocross, Desert, smooth track TT's, and the Hopetown Grand Prix. He entered 23 races and was never beaten. The US riders and press were intrigued by the young, fast Swede wearing the goatskin leather pants and riding the bike with the hard to pronounce name. Torsten got so many requests to share his riding secrets that he organized the first motocross school in the US. The next year Torsten returned with more European champions and the stage was set for the beginning of the Inter-Am series in 1968. Torsten saw the American racer's potential and the need for quality motocross gear so he began importing goatskin leather pants, gloves, and jerseys under the brand name Hallman Racing, or THR (Torsten Hallman Racing). This was the beginning of Thor.
Over the years countless races and championships have been won by riders wearing Thor. That list includes some of the greatest riders of all time: Roger DeCoster, Kent Howerton, Brad Lackey, Marty Smith, Scott Burnworth, George Holland, Ron Tichenor, Jeff Emig, Rick Johnson, Greg Albertyn, Sebastien Tortelli, Chad Reed, Jeremy McGrath, Travis Pastrana, Ivan Tedesco, Grant Langston, and many more. We're proud to be a part of the sport we've loved for so long and to have seen it gain the recognition we always knew it deserved.
Most importantly, we've never lost focus on what the driving force was that started this company - to build quality products that exceed rider expectations. We hope you enjoy the ride, for us it's just getting started.
